Standards of Care

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issues a series of guidelines to help health care professions provide care and treatment to people with HIV in the U.S. HRSA has developed complementary clinical protocols and practices that provide information on the effective delivery of HIV care.

Clinical guidelines outline the science and recommendations the care and treatment of people with HIV. These guidelines and recommendations are intended for health care professionals, public health professionals, Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program recipients, program managers in clinical and non-clinical settings, people with HIV, and the general public.

DSHS has developed standardized service category language for all fundable services through Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) Part B grants, DSHS State Services and HOPWA formula funds awarded to the State only. In accordance with HRSA, HHS guidelines, and DSHS service categories, TRG has adopted standards specific to the Houston EMA and also maintains some service specific regional policies as needed.
